Refresh Your Home For Spring

Refresh Your Home For Spring

We're sharing ten ways to freshen up your space with things you may already have in your house.

While the pandemic gave a lot of us time to re-envision our living spaces, finding the motivation to actually make changes may not have come quite as naturally (we call it pandemic paralysis). So now that things are starting to move in the right direction, we're getting excited about change, spring, and the future! Below are ten easy ways to celebrate all of these things in your home, simply by freshening up your space with things you may already have in your house.

    1. Add flowers: Bring the most cheerful and classic sign of Spring from the outside, in. If you don't have any flowers in your own yard, ask your neighbors if you can take some clippings. Chances are they'd love to share.

    2. Change out bedding: With the change of season, maybe you still have fleece or flannel sheets on your bed. Or maybe you lean towards dark colors in the Winter. Now's the time to brighten things up! Change out sheet sets and bed covers to light colors; whites, yellows and pinks make it easier to wake up in the morning and start your day.

    3. Create a gallery wall: Gather up those photos and prints you've been meaning to sort through, “when you have time”. A gallery wall is the perfect way to change the look of a room, while staying true to the things you love most.

    4. Add plants to empty spaces: Bring any room to life, with a little life! Besides adding pops of color, house plants are known to boost mood, productivity, concentration and creativity...something we can all use a little of right now.

    5. Change out curtains: Replace dark or blackout shades with sheers. This is an easy way to let more light into rooms and also make you feel more connected to the outside world.

    6. Rearrange: This seems like an obvious one, but how often do we really give it a shot? Move furniture around. Try things that might seem ridiculous or silly; you could actually love it. Also, don't forget to move pieces from room to room. You might find a better home for an end table or lamp in another space.

    7. Clean out clutter: Spring cleaning; why not jump on that bandwagon and simplify, because it feels so good! Our friends at Urban Oreganics just wrote a great guide, 30 Days to a Simpler Life, to help you get started.

    8. Style shelves: Did you know this was a thing? This is another fun and easy way to change the feel of a room without buying something new. Grab small items from other rooms, even from cupboards and storage, to see what you can create on any open shelf in your house. And don't forget your mantel.

    9. Throws and pillows: Moving decorative pillows around or adding a couple of new ones to your sofa can change the entire look of a room. Taking a throw from your couch and adding it to your bed might be just what you need to spice things up a bit. If you just can’t resist and need a new throw, we got you covered.

    10. Buy one new piece: Now is a great time to support small businesses and local designers and artisans, whether online or in person. Treat yourself to one new piece that you absolutely love. Maybe it's a hanging planter, wall art, or a ceramic piece. Your purchase means the world to these small businesses, especially those who have struggled during the pandemic.

Making these small and easy changes can give you a new found appreciation for your home. Try one or two of these tips each week and let us know what changes you’ve made.
